What is National Beach Day?
National Beach Day is dedicated to honoring the recreational and ecological value of our beaches, but really, it can be anything you want it to be. Use it as an opportunity to enjoy coastal activities, and spend time with friends and family with added emphasis on beach conservation and environmental responsibility. Beaches play a vital role in the health of our seas and ecology, so it's something that we should spend at least a day trying to protect.
The purpose of National Beach Day
The beach isn't just a fun destination to spend a sunny day, they're fragile ecosystems that need to be taken care of. Aside from being a recreational destination for us humans, beaches support a diverse array of wildlife and act as natural buffers against coastal erosion.
The problem is, our beaches are threatened by human impact, pollution and climate change. National Beach Day aims to highlight these issues, encouraging us to take action through appreciation, awareness and conservation efforts.
How you can celebrate National Beach Day
The limit here is only your imagination. National Beach Day can mean a different thing for everyone, but by keeping a focus on protecting our beaches, here are just some of the things you can do this August 30th.
Join or Organize a Beach Clean-Up
Why not get friends and family together to do a cleanup at your local beach? This is a great social opportunity to make your local beach cleaner and safer for others to enjoy while giving wildlife a helping hand.
Honorable mention to OCG who are dedicated to protecting our oceans from rubbish. Visit their website to find out more.
Enjoy a responsible day at the beach
Take time to relax and reconnect with nature. Go for a swim, enjoy a picnic with friends and family, try paddleboarding, or simply walk along the shore - just remember to leave no trace behind.
While you're enjoying the beauty of your local beach, use it as an opportunity to tell people you see that it's National Beach Day and share a little information about it.
Not by the sea? No worries - post about it on Social Media
You don't need to be at a coastal location to raise awareness of National Beach Day. Why not share a post about it on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter? Wish friends and family who are fortunate enough to live by the sea a 'Happy National Beach Day'. After all, they may not be aware of it so it's a great way to share its purpose.
